Sutton at Hone is a respectable village, 3 miles from Dartford and 7 south west from Gravesend, on the west side of the river Darent, in Dartford Union, with a neat and ancient church, dedicated to St. John the Baptist. The living is a vicarage; the Rev. John Hotham, vicar. It gives name to the lathe of Sutton at Hone. There are two places of worship for Wesleyans and Independents. The area of the parish is 4,040 acres, soil, loam with gravel; there is about 400 acres of woodland. Miss Mumford is lady of the manor, and the population of the whole parish, in 1841, was 1,128 of which Sutton contains 504. In 1842 the Property Tax assessment was £5,607. In the village is a National school for boys and girls. Hawley and Swanley and hamlets.
