I am a teacher at Dartford Grammar School and I have been researching pupils from the school who fought in World War I. Frank Ewart Bowers was a pupil at our school, as was his older brother Archibald D Bowers. I have the following details about his service:
    2nd Lieutenant Frank Ewart Bowers
Born 01/10/1891. DGS 1904-07. Joined the Royal Naval Division, Drake Battalion, in August 1914. Served in Antwerp in 1914, Gallipoli in 1915, and France in 1916. Wounded at Beaumont-Hamel 13/11/1916. Gazetted 2nd Lieutenant, The Queen’s Royal West Surrey Regiment, in 1917. Returned to France then served in Italy November 1917. Returned to France in January 1918. Died of wounds on Easter Sunday, 31/03/1918. Buried at Wimereux, France, IV.E.4. Remembered on the Sutton at Hone War Memorial.
CWGC: “Bowers, 2nd Lieutenant Frank Ewart. 5th Attached to 10th Battalion The Queen’s. Died of wounds 31st March 1918. Age 26. Son of Mrs S.A. and the late Benjamin Bowers, of Sutton-at-Hone, Kent. Volunteered August 1914. Served at Antwerp, Egypt, Gallipoli, and France in the ranks of the Royal Naval Division. Wounded on the Ancre, 1916. Served in Italy as an officer in the Queen’s.”
